Edition 13: धूळ/Dust 

Amrit Mishra is a Doctoral Candidate and a Junior Research Fellow of the department of English Literature at the English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad. His research area is Existentialism and India. He has four international academic publications and two sets of poetry published internationally to his credit.

Anil Mehta is the founder of Mehta Publishing House, a pioneer in the Marathi language publication industry, active for nearly four decades. He was Vice President of The Federation of Indian Publishers, New Delhi (FIP) for twenty years. Mehta is an active participant and key member of the Executive Council of The Federation of Indian Publishers.

Arushi Vats writes on arts and culture, in the form of reviews of exhibitions and photobooks, as well as longform essays on cinema and visual art. She has been a regular contributor to several journals, periodicals and exhibition catalogues. Arushi was selected for the inaugural Helter Skelter Writing Residency, conducted by Janice Pariat in May 2021.

Dinkar Manwar is an award-winning poet and a painter. He has published three collections of his poetry namely Drishya Naslelya Drushyat, Ajunahi Barach Kaahi and Panyaranya. Also, he co-edits the Marathi journal, Atirikt.

Jigisha Bhattacharya is a Lecturer of English at the Jindal Global Law School, Delhi-NCR. She has written her MPhil dissertation on the early history of Photography at Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta (CSSSC). She writes regularly on lens-based and visual arts, gender and politics for Critical Collective, Indian Express, First Post, The National Herad, Akar Prakar, Art Dose, Art East etc. She is currently working on a creative project on Rosa Luxemburg, and a book-project on Meera Mukherjee.

Hemant Shinde practices printmaking, installations and painting in Mumbai. He has MFA (Printmaking) from Sir J J School of Arts, Mumbai. He also holds a PG diploma in Museology from CSMVS, Mumbai.

Himanshu Smart is a playwright, poet and writes scholarly articles in Marathi. He is a visiting faculty at Lalit Kala Kendra, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune.

M Pravat completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts at M.S. University, Baroda. His works have been presented in solo and group exhibitions, biennales and art fairs in Colombo, Delhi, Dubai, Mumbai, New York, Seoul and Zurich. He has been the recipient of the ProHelvetia artist residency in Switzerland. Pravat lives and works in New Delhi.

Nikhil Purohit is an artist and arts administrator with interests in art education, pedagogy, art writing, translation and archival documentation. Nikhil heads the initiative, Faandee, dedicated to documenting the arts to promote heritage and its management and is associated with the Mohile Parikh Center for Visual Arts for the past eight years, connecting diverse audiences regionally and nationally.

Nilofar Shamim Haja is a Bangalore-based content strategist and digital marketing consultant working with brands, not-for-profit and cultural organizations to scale their digital presence. She has been an editor and researcher for the last 20 years and writes about art, architecture, design, and the built environment. Recently she began her entrepreneurial journey with Knottted With Love, a lifestyle brand that works with women artisans in Tamil Nadu to create sustainable, handcrafted products.

Nina Bhatt is a writer and painter. She makes leaf compost as garden produce from her home in Baroda. Her poems can be found in Wasafiri, The Caravan, IQ, La.Lit, The Hopper and Antiserious.

Paromita Patranobish is an academic based in New Delhi. She has a PhD in Modernist Literature with a focus on non-human embodiment in the works of Virginia Woolf. She has taught at Shiv Nadar University, Daulat Ram College and Ambedkar University Delhi. Her writing has been published in Scroll, Cafe Dissensus, Stirworld, Firstpost, The Chakkar, Bengaluru Review and Assam Tribune.

Pramodha Weerasekera is a writer, researcher, curator and lawyer based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. She holds a BA (Hons) in English (2019) from University of Colombo and an LLB (Hons) from University of London (2016). Her research and writing interests mainly lie in interdisciplinary discussions pertaining to literary theory, justice, emotion, feminist theory and the interconnections between visual art and literature.

Pradnya Ganla is a Mumbai based multimedia professional and a former RJ of Akashwani. She is active in theater as a performer, writer-director and facilitates workshops on communication and mental health.

Prashant Parvatneni is a writer and researcher based in Bangalore. He works with The Kabir Project and teaches courses on cinema and literature. His work has appeared in The Bombay Literary Magazine, Nether Quarterly, Seminar etc.

Rajan Gavas is a well-known Marathi novelist, storyteller, critic and thinker living in Gargoti in Maharashtra. His novel Tanakat has received the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award in 2001. Many of his literary works have been translated into various Indian languages. He has retired after teaching Marathi at college and university levels.

Ranjit Kandalgaonkar lives and works in Mumbai and his art practice primarily comprises a lens directed at the urban context of cities. Most of his long-term projects are research-intensive and attempt to unlock the work in the context of an unseen social history. He is the recipient of several awards and grants such as Majlis Visual Arts Fellowship, UDRI Fellowship, Leverhulme Artist Residency, Harvard University SAI Artist Residency, Seed Funding Award-Wellcome Trust and Gasworks Artist Residency. His works have been showcased at several galleries in India and abroad.

Rochelle Potkar is an alumna of Iowa’s International Writing Program (2015) and a Charles Wallace Writer’s fellow, University of Stirling (2017). She is the author of poetry books Four Degrees of Separation and Paper Asylum—shortlisted for the Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize 2020. Her poetry film Skirt showcased Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland, created by the Visible Poetry Project and filmmaker Philippa Collie Cousins. Widely-anthologized in Indian and international magazines, she has read her poetry in the countries like India, Ukraine, USA, China, UK, and Australia. 

Sanket Mhatre has been curating Crossover Poems—multilingual poetry recitation sessions that unifies poets from different languages on a single platform. He has been invited to read at Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, Poets Translating Poets, Jaipur Literature Festival and several other festivals to read his poems. Sanket Mhatre has also created Kavita Café—a Youtube Channel that combines cinematic vision with visual poetry. He is also a columnist who contributes regularly to leading news dailies in India.

Sarang Chavan loves travelling and learning new languages. He wishes to work in the field of diversity and inclusivity.

Sarba Roy is the author of ‘All That Will Remain’, an anthology of a collection of poems published by Writers Workshop India. An Economics graduate from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, he is a regular at Kommune’s Spoken Word and has also been published on various online platforms including Spark Magazine, Muse India, Project Fuel and PicNStory.

Sareena Khemka is a visual artist based in Bangalore and works in mixed media drawing, painting and sculpture. She holds a BFA in Painting from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan. Sareena’s work has been published in literary magazines including Imprint and The Nether Quarterly recently.

Sharmila Phadke Writer, Novelist, Art History Researcher. Originally a botanist, she studied Journalism, Modern and Contemporary Indian Art History, and Ancient Indian Art and Culture. She is into art history research, documentation, writing articles, columns for more than 15 years, conducting workshops in Indian and Western Art History and Art Appreciation.

Shubhangi Singh is a visual artist working across the media. Singh holds a Master’s degree in Visual Cultures, Curating and Contemporary Art from Aalto University and is the co-founder of New City Limits, an initiative to facilitate creative viewing and practice in Navi Mumbai, India.

Sonam Chaturvedi is a Delhi-based inter-media artist and Assistant Lecturer at O.P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat. She has studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts-M.S. University, Baroda and Shiv Nadar University, Greater Noida. She has initiated art projects like first draft and –out-of-line– and participated in exhibitions at Max Mueller Bhavan, FICA and Mumbai Art Room, among others. She works with Time and memory.

Urvi Chheda is an artist and independent art researcher based in Mumbai. She has a graduate degree from Sir JJ School of Art (2010), and has pursued Post Graduate Diploma in Comparative Mythology from Mumbai University.

Vikram Marathe is a visual artist based in Pune. Currently, he is working as an art curator at Zapurza: Creativity Centre, Pune.

Vinay Sharma is a Kolkata based actor, theatre director and playwright; currently Artistic Director, Padatik. His theatre writings have been published in STQ, and fiction and poetry in TLM and Prosopisia. Vinay was shortlisted for the TLM New Writing Award 2006 and The Bridport Poetry Prize 2017.

Yamini Dand Shah is a literary researcher, working as a Research Repository at the Asian Heritage Foundation, an advisor for publishing houses and board of studies for English Literature; she has also co-curated, Kala Ghoda Arts Festival (Literature) in 2019. Her poetry has been published in anthologies, magazines and journals. Her poetry collection titled ‘Abstract Oralism’ on women and Kachchh will be out in 2021 by Paperwall.

Zeenat Khan is a Delhi-based Indian poet of 20. She is doing her under-graduation in English Literature from Vivekananda College, DU. Started writing from 2020, her works appear or are forthcoming in Borderless Journal, Café Dissensus, Harbinger Asylum, Visual Verse, Red River and many South-Asian anthologies. In 2020, she was awarded the World Architectural Poetry Award.
